Please remember that tomorrow is a formal uniform day. Let's help our students earn their trees on the forest of uniforms!
Wednesday, February 12th is a Casual Valentine's Day Colours Day. Students do not need to wear their uniforms on this day. We are encouraging everyone in our school to try to wear pink, red, purple etc. to celebrate the occasion. Please remember that there are no classes for students on Thursday February 13th and 14th due to Teacher’s Convention and no school on Monday, February 17th for Family Day. We wish all of our students and families a wonderful long weekend! We will be having special guests from a Calgary based company called Food Impact, coming on Tuesday, February 11th to do a special presentation and activity with our kindergarten students about healthy eating. During the presentation, the children will learn about nutrition, healthy foods and why they are important. Following the presentation, the children will get to make and eat a healthy snack. There is a pink form that came home on Friday (AM students) and will be coming home on Monday for PM students. Please be sure to fill out the form and return it with your child in their folder by Tuesday in order to help us accommodate any allergies or food restriction that your child may have. The snack we will be making is a fruit, yogurt and granola parfait. We will be using yogurt, bananas, berries, WOWBUTTER, oats, flaxseeds, chia seeds, hemp hearts, and honey. If your child has any allergies to these items, please let your child's teacher know as soon as possible. Please note there are no nuts in the granola and the WOWBUTTER contains soy. For students who are unable to eat dairy, we can give them the snack without the yogurt, or you are welcome to send in an alternative if there is something that your child would enjoy in combination with fruit and granola. You will not need to send your child with another snack on this day unless you feel that it is absolutely necessary. Try to encourage your child to try something new. They will never know what they will like unless they are willing to try! If you want to learn more about the program and why we feel that it will benefit our students then visit: http://www.foodimpact.ca/our-mission.html Don't forget to send in those pink forms! Valentine's Day Celebrations Our classes are planning to celebrate Valentine’s Day on Wednesday, February 12th by focusing on friendship, kindness and sharing.
In order to celebrate friendship and the virtue of caring, we are inviting students to make or share cards or treats for their classmates. Students do not have to bring anything if they choose not to however, please note that if you choose to send cards or treats then you must ensure that you send enough for all of the students in your child’s class. We do not exclude any children ~ we promote the idea that in our classes, we are all friends. Please make sure that all treats are pre-portioned/packaged and any baked goods have a list of the ingredients included so that we can check for allergies. It will be a very busy day and may be very difficult to have enough time to pass out and eat cupcakes, large baked goods etc. therefore, small simple treats are best, healthy treats are even better! Valentine’s cards are completely optional. If you do choose to have your child send them, then please have them write the names and sign their cards independently. This is a great opportunity for your child to practice writing! Other tips: - allow your child several days to complete the cards - talk to your child about upper and lower case letters when writing names (names start with a capital letter, followed by all lower case letters). - consider size if purchasing valentines – the bigger the valentine, the easier it will be for them to print the names on. - double check that your child has made a valentine for ALL students. Our students had a great time bowling last week. They learned how to take turns and roll the ball to try to knock down as many pins as possible. They enjoyed learning and practicing a new sport and spending time with their classmates and friends. Thank you to the parent volunteers who came and helped us with this fun activity. Our next field trip will be to Granary Road in May, so we will be sure to let parents know when we will be looking for volunteers to join us. We still have many students who cannot zip up their jackets and need help with buttons on pants, jackets etc. Please be sure to practice these skills with your child to help them become more independent and less reliant on adults to help them get ready. This will help boost their confidence and get them in and out much faster and easier.
Thank you for your support with this. We are excited for our trip to Toppler Bowling Alley tomorrow, Monday, January 27th and Tuesday January 28th. Students will be walking with teachers and supervisors down the street and across to the bowling alley where they will get a chance to bowl with their classmates. Please make sure that your child has warm clothing to walk in. They will bring their gym shoes to wear while they are bowling (the bowling alley gives us special permission for this). If your child has not returned their permission form, then please send it with them tomorrow so that they can join us. Thank you to parents who have volunteered to join us. Please check into the main office when you arrive. Important Dates this week A reminder that this Thursday, January 30th is an 8am-12pm day for Morning (AM) Kindergarten students only. There is no school for Afternoon (PM) students on this day.
This is a casual day. Students do not need to wear their uniforms and can wear their own clothing on this day. _____________________________________________________ Friday, January 31st is a Professional Development Day. There is no school for students on this day. _____________________________________________________ A reminder that tomorrow is AFTERNOON (PM) Kindergarten.
Lunar New Year Celebrations : If your family formally celebrates Lunar New Year as part of your culture and belief system, your child is invited to wear their FORMAL LUNAR NEW YEAR celebration clothing on Friday January 24. They will be invited to the Learning Commons for a special photo for our Yearbook. If this is not part of your formal celebrations or culture, you are expected to attend school in your uniform as this is NOT a CASUAL DAY Welcome back! We hope that our families had a wonderful winter break spending time with friends and family. We are working on getting back into our normal routines and excited to continue exploring and learning together with our students. It is supposed to be very cold this week so please be sure to send your child/children in warm winter clothes for traveling to and from school. If there was an emergency such as a car or bus breaking down, we would want to be sure that the children are dressed warm enough in case they had to wait for any length of time in cold temperatures. When it is very cold then children will be allowed inside in the morning or as soon as they arrive off buses etc. Otherwise they will need to wait outside. We also sometimes go outside for physical education in the winter, so we ask children to always be dressed in a way that will keep them safe and warm. Yoga This week during our physical education program, our students have been learning how to do yoga through stories with a special guest instructor. The children learned how to stretch and balance in fun ways and to use their imaginations to guide them through movements. We believe that it is important to expose children to different types of physical activity so that they will learn different ways to have fun in healthy and active ways that best suit their individual skills and preferences. Bowling The week of January 27-31st the Kindergarten-Grade 2 students will be going bowling at Toppler Bowl. There will be two days that week that we will be looking for volunteers to join us. Please check back on Weebly shortly for the dates and times for each class. If you are interested in volunteering for this or other field trips this year then you will need to have current police clearance (which can be done through the main office at our school). It can take several weeks to go through, so please make sure that you complete this process in order to volunteer for field trips in the future. We couldn’t do our field trips without you so thank you to any parents who are willing to volunteer! Character Program- New Books/Bags Our new character books will be coming home over the next few weeks. Please be sure to check your child’s backpack for the bag when it is their turn. The bags should not be kept longer than one week and please be sure to return all of the materials as well as the book. The instructions and materials are also in the bag. Please only make ONE activity per child so that there are enough supplies left for all of the other students. If any of the bags or their contents do not get returned then families will be charged the cost to replace them. Thank you for supporting us in helping the kindergarten children to learn about feelings, emotions and how to react to them appropriately as part of our character program. This is a great opportunity for families to discuss feelings together and to encourage your children to express themselves in order to be emotionally regulated. IMPORTANT UPCOMING DATES:

Extended Absences We would like to remind families to please let us know if your child is going to be away for an extended period of time as we want to make sure we have the appropriate paperwork completed for your child’s absence. Student Safety:
As the weather continues to be cold, wet and often unpredictable, it is important to always send your child with all the appropriate clothing to keep them safe and warm. We also want to remind you that students are continuously reminded about bus safety and expectations. We would like to ask for your help and support regarding bussing and ask you please ensure you are at your departure spot at least 10 minutes prior to expected departure and be at the bus stop at least 10 minutes prior to arrival. Students and families who arrive at the bus stop as the bus is departing, often make unsafe choices by j-walking, blocking the bus or parking in the bus zones. We want to make sure our students are watching and learning safety expectations at all times. Please help us and your children be safe to and from school. As part of our global citizenship initiative, we are focusing on helping those less fortunate within our local community. The staff and students of Le Roi Daniels will be donating socks full of essential items to the Calgary Mustard Seed this holiday season. If you are wishing to participate in this school initiative please send items from the list below that correlate to your children’s classrooms. Bar Soap – AM Kindergarten Classes Deodorant/Antiperspirant – PM Kindergarten Classes If you choose to participate the please send in all items to school by Monday, December 16th. Thank you for your support and donations. |
