- Home Reading - In class, students have been working diligently on learning their letters, sounds and some are even beginning to read! In order to support your child and ensure we have them as ready as they can be for Grade 1, we are beginning to switch from just learning letters and sounds to also learning key sight words that are needed for reading in Grade 1. Attached you will find both the pre-primer and primer sight word lists that can be practiced at home over the next few weeks. This is not mandatory or a part of the homework, but for those students who would like an extra challenge and feel they are ready. Once you feel your child has mastered these words, please send me an email and I will assess them here at school. Students who have learned 80% of both lists will be able to celebrate by beginning to bring home some small home reading books in order to practice their reading with you at home. If your child does not bring home books, please practice reading with them by searching for sight words in their library books.

Each child will have a turn to take the Mystery Box home and place ONE object inside for the letter of the week. The item that is placed inside the box can be an object (please no food) or a picture. For example, if you were given the letter 'A' you could put a picture of an acorn in the box. When the box is returned to school on Wednesday the children will try to guess what is inside the box by asking questions. The box will be sent home in your child's backpack on Monday and it will need to be returned on Wednesday. I look forward to this fun learning opportunity with the students.

- Halloween is tomorrow! Students are encouraged and invited to come to school in their Halloween costumes on this day, as this is an early dismissal day, there will not be an opportunity for students to change at school so please send them in their costume. Please remember that costumes must be child friendly. There should be no weapons, blood or gore represented in the costumes and those pieces must remain at home. If your child's costume has a mask, they will be allowed to wear it for the parade (providing they can see easily) and then asked to return it to their backpack for the remainder of the morning. Both AM and PM Kindergarten students will attend this morning – bussing will be the same as your Friday morning schedules. We will be having a Halloween parade at 9am where students will showcase their costumes throughout the gym and then have celebration activities and tasks in their classrooms for the remainder of the morning. As this is a full morning of Halloween activities, if you or your child do not celebrate Halloween, we understand if you choose to keep them home this morning. If you choose to send them, there will be alternative Fall activities in the classroom and they will be able to sit in the office during the parade.

- If there is any important information about your child that you think I may need to know please feel free to contact me by email at [email protected] and allow 24 hours for a response. If there is something that you need me to know urgently then please call the school at 403-777-6420 and leave a message with the main office. Teachers cannot be contacted directly by phone however the office can pass on a message to me quickly when needed. If your child will be away then please contact the main office. You are welcome to send me an email as well to let me know. Any extended absences will need to be discussed with Mrs. Taylor. If your child will not be taking the bus then please make sure to contact the main office as soon as possible so that they can make a note on the bus attendance for the day, otherwise the bus will not leave until we have found them. Please email me as well so that I can be sure to get them to join the "Pick Up Line". You will also need to let me know who is picking your child up if it is somebody different (Grandparents, family friend etc.)
Please take note that although Le Roi Daniels is only nut aware we do have students with severe nut allergies in our classroom. We appreciate any treats you wish to bring in and share with the class but please ensure that none of them contain nuts, this includes Nutella. Also, please be vigilant when packing lunches and make sure no products with nuts are introduced to the classroom environment for the safety of all the students.
